January 2026

A Year in Review

In January, I drew… Nothing!

Yeah, nothing. It wasn't a particularly productive month in terms of art. Instead I focused on things like (unsuccesfully) finding a job, and… having a girlfriend!

I could easily wrap this month's blog up with that, but there's many other things I can talk about besides what I drew this month— after all, it's a new year! But I want to look back at the previous one.

The latter end of 2025 was a very special time for me, and it all started with the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

To say Silksong is a game that was long-anticipated would be an understatement, but I managed to stave off the hype until just a couple months before the release. When it finally did release, it did so on the weekend on which I was visiting my very first furry convention… But I was so excited for Silksong that I went home early that evening in order to get the game on release. Silksong's launch then proceeded to crash literally every video game store front for hours, so I didn't get the game until late into the night anyway.

Once I had the game, however, I was so excited to share my experience playing it with others that I plunged head-first into what would become one of my best decisions ever. At first, my best friend watched me stream it for a couple of hours, but eventually she had to go, and I was left with an itch I couldn't scratch. This lead me to set my sights on a community Discord server I was in, and its frequently active voice chats.

In my Silksong-induced need for conversation, I joined the voice chat and started streaming the game. It was overwhelming, but I had fun, and met many interesting people. Two of them were Mika and Saya, who if you've seen the website for my webcomic, may be familiar names to you. After all, Mika would soon offer to compose music for Existence Inc., and Saya would take over as the programmer for the site! (Saya, coincidentally, also happens to be that girlfriend I mentioned earlier.) Joining these people gave me an opportunity to talk about my art and projects, and gave me the push I needed to pick up a pen again. I had been in art burn-out since 2022, only rarely drawing every other month or so when I used to draw near every day, but now it feels like I'm finally "back"!

About this Blog

So, now I'm here. Not only do I feel like drawing again, I decided to put this art blog on my website. I have to admit, this was a spontaneous choice and I still don't know how I want to go about it. I don't have a true gallery page for my art on the site yet, and part of me… doesn't want to make one? I like the idea of my art being contained to these posts, rather than being detached from context in a gallery layout. It's not like I need one, I have plenty social media accounts where you can view my art in that way already!

This raises one issue, though: What do I do about my old art? I want to post monthly blogs, going over my projects for that month, but that leaves little room for showcasing my older stuff. Perhaps I could have two blog sections, one for the monthly posts and one for blogs of me talking about my old art? As I'm writing this, I'm warming up to that idea. If anyone is reading this and has their own suggestions, feel free to tell me in the guestbook as well!
